Mother Nature decided it was time for the Drumheller Valley to be covered with snow on Monday (November 24) morning.
A system was expected to come in to Southwestern Alberta with some heavy accumulation of snow but the large amount was not expected in the Drumheller region. Stingray Weather Specialist Brandon Houck shares that most of the models had this snow hitting more to the southwest. “Model solutions were kind of difficult for this one. A lot of them were keeping (the snow) all to the south. There is one that put it right, smack dab, over Drumheller and back to the west. So far that is the one that is becoming the true one.”
Environment and Climate Change Canada has shared that between 5 to 10 centimetres expected. Houck agrees with those numbers. “Easily 5 to 10 centimetres will be likely. Areas further to the south, especially closer to the Cypress Hills, may pick up 20 centimetres of snow by the end of the day (Monday).”
It would be great if this was the end of the snowfall for the week but Houck confirms that more is on the way. “More is on the way. This is like round one. We are easing right into winter this week. Temperatures are staying below freezing throughout the week. We have another round of snow moving in Thursday, into Friday, and that is going to be another 5 to 10 centimetres of snow. so here we go again. Winter is here.”
