UPDATE: The final report is in from the Alberta Electoral Boundaries Commission and there are a few changes to the electoral districts than what we shared with you back in January.

The new proposed Mountain View-Kneehill constituency would be very close to what was proposed back in January. The riding would still stretch from the Town of Drumheller in the east to the Rocky Mountains in the west but not include areas north of Sundre.

The High River-Vulcan-Siksika riding would include most of Wheatland County, including Rosebud, Rockyford, Hussar, and Dalum in our area, and reach as far south at Claresholm and Carmangay.
There is also an addition to the Drumheller-Stettler riding including areas west of Stettler like Alix, Clive, and Mirror to the edge of Lacombe and Blackfalds.
The final report of the Commission has now been presented to the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly and we will see if these changes recommended by the Commission move forward.

Earlier this year, the Alberta Electoral Boundaries Commission (the Commission) held numerous open houses to discuss potential adjustments to boundary lines for a number of provincial constituencies. The reason for the commission’s work is that with the population of Alberta increasing, two new ridings are to be developed, increasing the current number of ridings from 87 to 89.
Earlier this fall, the Commission presented their initial report to the province and a number of voters in our region could be affected with the changes proposed, including a new riding of Mountainview-Kneehill, which would stretch from the eastern edge of Kneehill County by Drumheller, to the western edge of the Rocky Mountains.

With the proposed changes, that would adjust who would represent residents south and west of Drumheller, that reside in Wheatland County. They would be part of the High River-Vulcan riding that would stretch from the eastern edge of Wheatland County including Dalum and the Wintering Hills, west to High River and south to near Lethbridge.

As for the Drumheller-Stettler riding, there would be a small adjustment on the northern border, moving the constituency border west of Hardisty, which would include the community in the Drumheller-Stettler riding.
Areas around Beiseker and Irricana would be part of Airdrie-East, which would also include Crossfield.
These are just the initial recommendations by the Commission and they plan to conduct further public consultations prior to a final report being presented to the government for consideration, prior to the anticipated 2027 provincial election.
