For years and years the teams of the Drumheller Girls Softball Association (DGSA) have had the team name Pure Venom. That will change this upcoming season.
All of the softball teams will be known, going forward, as the Drumheller Diamonds. Heather Jones from the DGSA board explains that it has been quite a process on deciding the new name for the teams. “It all started with new jerseys. We needed a fresh new set. We figured if we are going to order a new set anyways, let’s look at what we want to do as far as a rebrand. Diamonds was one of the options. We started off with a very big list. In the end we put a survey out to the board, so there was no influences, and Diamonds came out as the top choice.” Jones admits that Diamonds has many associations with softball, including the actual baseball diamond, the sharpness and strength of diamonds.
With the refresh, the colours of the team also are changing to a sky blue. Jones admits that it was a close vote between green and the sky blue. “We put a vote out and originally started with three colours. Pink received 10 percent of the vote, blue and green were completely tied. We run three votes, two to the public and one to the board. Two came in as a tie, and the one final community vote, blue ended up ahead.
The organization has started to order the new jerseys and expect to have the teams dressed as the Drumheller Diamonds this upcoming ball season.
