Your Drumheller Dragons were coming into their game on Saturday on a high note, after a hard fought win against the Whitecourt Wolverines the night before.
The Dragons were heading into Drayton Valley on a four game heater but nobody told the Thunder. Drayton came out ready to play outshooting Drumheller in the first period by a 10-5 margin. They would miss an empty net chance and have one go off the post but the game would remain tied 0-0 after one.
Drayton Valley would open the scoring early in the second, only 29 seconds in, with a goal by Caedem Emmett (8). Drumheller would tie the game on a hard working effort by Jacob Goudreau who went around two Thunder defenders and scored his 10th of the year at 11:50. The game would remain tied 1-1 after two periods.
In the third, the Dragons would take the lead early with Cameron Johnsen scoring his first of the year, from Lachlan Kozicky and Matthew Hilderman at 5:47. Drayton Valley would tie the game after a misplay by the Dragons defense, sending Loughlan McMullan in all alone for a short-handed goal at 7:47. The Thunder would then score a powerplay goal with 8:51 remaining, a goal by Avery Watson, to take the 3-2 lead. Drumheller would pull goaltender Brandon Williams with just under two minutes remaining but could not get the equalizer. Loughlan McMullan would score another for Drayton Valley, into the empty net with 4 seconds remaining to solidify the 4-2 victory.
Drumheller is back home for two games this weekend, Friday night against the Lloydminster Bobcats and then Saturday versus the Devon Xtreme. Both games are at 7 PM at the Memorial Arena.
