Porter Airlines is joining three other Canadian airlines in resuming service to Puerto Vallarta today after they’d suspended flights because of widespread violence across Mexico, including in the popular resort city.
Similar restarts were announced for today by Air Canada, WestJet and Air Transat. WestJet also said it would fly again to Guadalajara and Manzanillo.
For those Canadians down in the Puerto Vallarta area, especially those that have places down there like Tammy Huene of Drumheller, it will be nice to be able to get back to normal. Huene noted that where they live, in Bucerias, things were pretty quiet. “We live outside of Puerto Vallarta, 15 mins north. We didn’t witness anything here except a red alert to lockdown, which we have. The cartel were angry, set things on fire, but nobody was hurt. Everything here is slowly opening and will be totally back to normal today (Tuesday). This country would make sure nothing happens to tourists, this is their bread and butter. The National Guard , Military, Coast Guard jump into gear immediately! I never felt unsafe as we follow the protocols and all is good.” She also said that on Sunday night, with everything locked down, all they could hear were the bats
Global Affairs Canada is still advising people exercise a high degree caution throughout Mexico, as flights resume.
