Over this past weekend one of our local bowlers did Drumheller proud and qualified to bowl in the Master Bowlers Association Nationals.
Karen Tanke, who is a bowler and coach at Sandstone Lanes in Drumheller, is also part of the Master Bowlers of Alberta. The Master’s held their Provincial tournament in Edmonton and Tanke bowled exceptionally well to be part of Team Alberta that will represent our province in Burlington, Ontario this summer. For Tanke, this isn’t her first time being on the national stage for bowling. “This is the second time. I went to Nationals in 2019 in Gatineau, Quebec.”
Tanke had an strong weekend as she had to bowl 16 games in two days. On Saturday, she was 177 over her average, and on Sunday she improved, over her average by 314. Tanke is proud of how she did. “I haven’t bowled this good in years.”
As this is the second time for Tanke to compete on the national level, she understands what to expect come June. “It’s nerve-racking to say the least but it is fun. It is a totally different experience and you get to meet people from all across Canada. It is just a lot of fun.”
Tanke and the rest of her team will be leaving on June 28th to Burlington, Ontario, with bowling taking place for her division at Hopedale Bowl over four days, June 29th through July 2nd.
