Our Drumheller Dragons were looking to even up their first round playoff series against the Camrose Kodiaks on Wednesday night in Camrose. The Kodiaks had a different plan in mind.
It started off on the wrong foot for the Dragons early in the first as Liam Payne scored his third of the series, unassisted, at 4:32. Later in the period, a goal that Dragons netminder Sean Cootes would love to have back, Tucker Tullikopf got one under the arm of Cootes at 11:23, making it 2-0 Kodiaks. Just over a minute later Junshi Hideshima added to the lead. Drumheller was down 3-0 after one period.
Early in the second, Camrose would add another with Brandon de Haas scoring at 1:58. Drumheller would make a goaltending change switching Sean Cootes with Brandon Williams. With 4:28 left in the second, Bowen Grycan would pot a pretty goal, over the shoulder of Williams, just under the cross bar, increasing the lead to 5-0. The last goal would be scored by former Dragon Keegan Beagle, from the right point, on the powerplay with 29.7 seconds left in the second period, making it 6-0 Camrose.
The Dragons would have their chances in the third but couldn’t solve Kodiaks goaltender Conner Knorr and Camrose would go on to a 6-0 victory.
The Dragons are now in a win or your out scenario. Drumheller will look to send the series back to Camrose with a win in front of their home crowd on Friday night. Game time is at 7 PM at the Memorial Arena and tickets are available online at tickets.drumhellerdragons.ca.
