It all came down to Game 7. Our Drumheller Dragons had fought back in the series, facing elimination twice, could they do it again?
Not surprisingly it would end up being a low scoring affair with both goaltenders doing their job to send their team to round two. Neither team was able to score in the first period.
The first goal of the game came in the second period. The Dragons opened the scoring when Lauchlan Kozicky scored his second of the playoffs, unassisted, at 15:08. The Dragons would take the 1-0 lead into the third period.
The goaltending battle would continue in the third period as both Kodiaks goaltender Carter Capton and Dragons goaltender Sean Cootes would need to make a number of key saves to keep their team’s hopes alive. Drumheller would take an unfortunate penalty with 1:08 remaining as the Kodiaks were looking to tie the game. Camrose would pull their goaltender for the extra attacker and Junshi Hideshima would score the tying goal with only 30 seconds left in the game, sending the game to overtime.
It wouldn’t take long to determine a winner as Dragons forward Bradley Gallo would score, assisted by Jacob Goudreau and Luca Dufour to secure the 2-1 victory and send the Dragons to the second round against the Canmore Eagles.
