Our Drumheller Dragons had the chance to get one game back on the Canmore Eagles on Tuesday night but the Eagles and their power play had a different idea.
The Dragons ended up taking a penalty early in the first period and the Canmore Eagles power play made the Dragons pay as Hudson Landmark scored 3:01 into the period, giving the Eagles a 1-0 lead. Later in the period, Drumheller would again take a penalty and unfortunately it would again be costly as Bryson Insinger would score on the power play, increasing the lead on the Dragons to 2-0 with 7:45 left in the first period.
The Dragons would dominate play in the second period but unfortunately could not get anything by Eagles netminder Andrew Scheiwiller. Canmore would lead 2-0 after two periods.
In the third, the Eagles would add another as Bryson Insinger scored his second of the game (6) at 10:27, making the deficit 3-0. Drumheller would pull goaltender Sean Cootes to try to mount a comeback and Insinger would score his hat-trick goal, into the empty net, to make it 4-0 Canmore. Drumheller would again pull goaltender Sean Cootes and get one back with Sullivan Humeniuk scoring his first of the playoffs with 3:09 left in the game, assisted by Hayden Schollar and Nathan Ivey. Then, with 1:43 left, Bradley Gallo would score his third of the post-season to cut the deficit to 4-2, assisted by Tristan Payne and Matthew Hilderman. The Dragons would have a power play with 52 seconds left in the game and came close to scoring once more but it wasn’t meant to be. Drumheller would fall 4-2 and now trail the Eagles 3-0 in the series.
It is now do or die time for our Dragons as they must win Game 4 tonight at the Memorial Arena to stretch the series to Game 5 in Canmore on Friday night. This is when our team needs everyone down at the Memorial Arena. Game time tonight is at 7 PM and tickets are available at tickets.drumhellerdragons.ca.
