On April 22, 2026, at 8:15 p.m., officers of the Alberta RCMP Roving Traffic Unit conducted a traffic stop on Highway 1, east of Calgary. During the stop officers observed indicators consistent with drug possession and entered into a roadside drug investigation. As a result of this investigation, 250 litres of suspected gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB) were located concealed in the vehicle and seized.
Nicon Pyrlog (50), a resident of Newmarket, Ontario, was arrested and has been charged with the following:
- Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking contrary to Section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs & Substances Act.
- Possession of property obtained by crime contrary to Section 355.4 of the Criminal Code
Prylog was released to appear in Alberta Court of Justice on the Siksika Nation on June 11, 2026.
GHB is a potent central nervous system depressant. It is sometimes referred to as a “date-rape drug” and is also abused as a recreational “club drug.” Typical illicit doses range from approximately 1 millilitre to 4 millilitres, depending on potency and user tolerance. The quantity seized is estimated to represent between 60,000 and 250,000 individual doses. The street value of the seized GHB is estimated to be between $300,000 and $750,000, depending on the market and location of distribution. Investigators believe the substance was destined for major urban centres, including Toronto and Ottawa, and that the trafficking operation was connected to organized crime.
This seizure highlights the Alberta RCMP Traffic Services’ ongoing commitment to public safety—not only on provincial highways, but within communities across Canada—by disrupting the movement of illegal drugs before they reach the public.
