With the melting of all of the snow throughout the region, conditions have dried out very quickly.
With the dry conditions throughout our area, a number of counties and municipal districts have put in place fire advisories and restrictions. Kneehill County has put in place a Fire Restriction.
- Under a fire restriction, safe campfires are allowed in fire rings only.
- Gas or propane stoves/barbeques and portable propane fire pits are also allowed.
- Current fire permits may be suspended or cancelled, and no new fire permits will be issued. If the situation continues to worsen, Kneehill County will put on a fire ban.
- As the fire restriction also applies to burn pits, Kneehill County’s Torrington and Linden Transfer Sites are temporarily unable to accept burn pit materials until the fire restriction is lifted. Thank you for your understanding.
Starland County is under a Fire Advisory. This will remain in effect until conditions change or we see significant moisture.
Controlled burn permits will be issued on a case by case basis and may be revoked at any time.
This does not prevent the use of BBQs, fire pits and other recreational fires, however, it is highly recommended to only use when conditions are suitable, precautions are taken and proper fire containment such as grates or screens are used in conjunction.
Wheatland County and Special Areas are also under a Fire Advisories with similar restrictions as Starland County.
The restrictions and advisories only apply to rural areas and hamlets around our region. Nearly all the villages and towns within our region do not currently have a fire restriction, yet conditions remain dry and caution with fire is advised.
