Earlier this spring, Tim Hortons held their annual Smile Cookie campaign and this year, the Drumheller location selected Peggie’s Feline Rescue Society for the proceeds.
On Wednesday, July 8th, the official cheque presentation by Tim Hortons happened at their location. Peggy Ginger, chair of Peggie’s Feline Rescue Society, shares that the funds raised will go to help so many cats in their care. “This makes all the difference in the world. Like I was telling you before, we lost one of our sources of regular income (from helping a local caterer in town), we were stuck as to where we were going to get the money. God is going to provide, and he did. I got a phone call to participate in the Smile Cookie campaign and I jumped at the chance.” Ginger and her team went all out letting everyone know to come and get Smile Cookies and all of that effort turned into $9,905. These funds will help for a number of months according to Ginger. “We’re are going to be able to function into December, quite nicely, with this.”
The Feline Rescue already knows what most of these funds will be earmarked for, notes Ginger. “They are earmarked for basic functions, like the vet bills. Our vet bills here in town and we use another animal hospital charity in Calgary, and sometimes have two vet bills to pay, our insurance, our power bills, just to keep going.” The funds will also go towards food and litter as well.
Ginger and her group have helped hundreds of cats in our area. “We have helped approximately 746 cats”. Ginger and her team hope that they will be the recipient of the Smile Cookie fundraiser again in 2027.
