On August 24th, at 9:30 pm, Bassano RCMP was responding to a report of 3-4 cows on the road near Hwy 56 and Township Rd 250, just north of Hussar. While en-route to the call, Police were informed that an SUV had struck one of the cows causing the vehicle to go off-road and through fences into the field. The driver was luckily uninured however there was significant damage to the vehicle and the cow was deceased. The cattle owners attended to repair the fences and ensure no more cows were on the roadway.
Bassano and Brooks RCMP have observed a significant increase in calls for service regarding cows on the roads – cattle owners are encouraged to inspect the fences on their pastures and lease land to ensure the cattle are kept in the fields and safe from vehicles, and drivers safe from the cattle.
