The fieldhouse at the Badlands Community Facility was the place to be on Wednesday (September 9th) as the Sports, Art, & Recreation Exhibit provided an opportunity for adults and kids alike to learn what programs are available for the fall and winter.
As like many years, a number of groups and sports organizations for kids were on hand hoping that they would see an increase in involvement from local youth. Scouts Canada had a table set up and according to Evelyn Dextras from Scouts, events like this are so important for their group. “I know it definitely gets us to be visible. We have a lot of youth that are helping us out today and showing that we are active, in the community, and showing that this is a fun group to be a part of.”
Scouts Canada has typically been associated with boys but Dextras shares that now everyone can be involved. “I know a lot of people come to us and say ‘hey, it’s only for boys’. It’s not anymore, we are open to boys and girls. We accept pretty much anybody who wants to be involved.”
Tricia Hatch from Tricia Hatch School of Dance also understands the importance of having a table at this event every year. “It’s a great event. I’m so glad the Town (of Drumheller) organizes it, puts it on. I always tend to get introduced to new families in the community that I haven’t met before and I always bring some new dance families from this event.”
There were a number of new groups in attendance this year. While we were in attendance, there were a good number of people. No word yet on the number of attendees. If that information comes available, we will update the story when the number is provided.
