Our Drumheller Dragons wrapped up their preseason over the weekend with two games, one on the road and one at home.
The Dragons headed to Calgary on Friday night for a battle against the Calgary Canucks. Drumheller would dominate the first period with 15 shots on goal, compared to 3 by Calgary. Dominic Seminoff would open the scoring at 3:31 with his fifth of the preseason, giving the Dragons the 1-0 lead. The Dragons would add another with 5:39 left in the first, with Macklin Dobko scoring, making it 2-0.
The Dragons dominance would continue in the second with four more goals, Nathan Ivey only 21 seconds in, Lauchaln Kozicky at 2:39, Nick McLennan at 12:28. and Bradley Gallo with 4:09 remaining in the period. The dragons would take the 6-0 lead into the third period.
Calgary would get on the board with a couple of special team goals. Cody Carson would score short-handed, making it 6-1 Drumheller at 5:26. With two minutes left in the game, Colby Monette would score a powerplay goal making it 6-2. Drumheller would outshoot Calgary 50-24 in the game.
A closer matchup would be on Saturday at the Memorial Arena as the Dragons welcomed the Korea University Tigers from Seoul, South Korea.
The Tigers came out firing as they would outshoot the Dragons in the first period 14-5. Ryul Kwon would score for Korea with 7:11 left in the first period. Seongsoon Choi would score with one second left in the first, making it 2-0 Korea after one.
In the second, it would be a physical battle as both teams would take a few penalties but the score would remain 2-0 Tigers after two.
Early in the third, Korea would increase their lead as Seongsoon Choi would score his second of the game, making it 3-0. The Dragons would get on the board with a powerplay goal with 3:30 left in the game, with a goal by Rowan McDonald. Drumheller would pull their goaltender with just over two minutes left and Korea would find the empty net, a goal by Ryul Kwon scored his second of the game. The Dragons would again pull goaltender Holden Murphy and Rowan McDonald would score his second of the game to cut the deficit to 4-2 with only 19 seconds left in the game, which would be the final.
The Dragons have now finished the preseason and prepare to start their 2026-27 regular season. Their first two games are on the road, starting Friday night in Camrose against the Kodiaks at 7 PM. Saturday, the Dragons are on the road in Calgary at 5 PM. We’ll have both games for you on the home of the Dragons, New Country 92.5 with the pregame shows starting 15 minutes prior to game time.
