The morning started off a bit chilly but you couldn’t have asked for a better day for the Dinosaur Valley Half Marathon on Sunday, September 13th.
The event, which has been held in the Drumheller Valley for the past 16 years and now centered at the Midland Community Hall for the past few years, was very well attended once again for 2026. They ended up having a record 602 participants in the three disciplines, the half marathon, 10K race, and the Family 5K.
There were participants from all across Canada, including participants from Nova Scotia, Ontario, the Northwest Territories, and BC. Quite a number of locals also participated in all three races.
The fastest time in the half marathon was by Mike Orsini from Medicine Hat with a time of 1:26:41. Drumheller local Tyson Gemby was second with a time of 1:29:18. In the 10 K, Ryan Gonda from Erskine, AB, was the fastest overall with a time of 40:38. In the Family 5 K, the top two times were both local, with Anatolii Korpan with an amazing time of 16:35, followed by Owen Aitkin with at time of 22:20.
Plans are already underway for the 17th Dinosaur Valley Half Marathon in September 2027.
