If you had the chance to stop by and make a donation to the annual Coats For Kids and Parkas For Parents program put on by Western GM, you probably saw the tremendous support from the community.
Wednesday through Friday last week, Western GM was collecting new and slightly used winter gear for those that need it in our community. According to Mike Bell from Western GM, can’t believe the amount of donations they continue to receive after 18 years. “Year after year, it is slowly dwindling for used coats but I can’t believe the people that will go out and buy new coats and bring them down. I would say over three-quarters of our stuff is brand new stuff, and all of that stuff stays right here in town.”
This winter gear is needed more now than ever before, acknowledges Bell. “It is incredibly hard to meet your needs every month. I just hope people take advantage of (the program) and know that our community is there for them.”
Western GM has always been a big supporter of the Drumheller Valley and Bell notes that it is important for them to support the community, like they do. “We do try and pitch in as many places we can. We keep giving it our best and hopefully it all works out in the end.”
The coats and winter apparel will be distributed by the Salvation Army later this fall. We will update when those dates become available.
