Earlier this spring, the Drumheller Dragons along with a great number of partners seeded a portion of land adjacent to Dinosaur Trail Golf Club to wheat.
This is the fifth year of seeding the Field of Dreams. Mother Nature cooperated and now the field is full of wheat. The team from Brandt Tractor here in Drumheller were at the field on Monday (September 21st) bringing in this year’s crop. According to Kyle McLaughlin from Brandt they are proud to help support the team through this program. “It’s actually a pleasure to see the community come together here. It is not just here at Brandt with the equipment, we have a bunch of other sponsors here. Everybody puts in and it’s nice to see.”
Brandt uses the field to try out a number of new pieces of equipment and technology comments McLaughlin. “Most importantly, we are doing PGSC. That’s the combine looking 25 feet ahead of it at the crop. Between the satellites and the cameras on the front of the combine, it basically drives itself. Another thing we’ve hooked up this year is machine sync. When we are unloading (the combine) and we have the tractor with the grain cart, we can get them to run side by each. I can just press buttons in the cab and get the tractor to move forward, back up, or whatever, it’s nice and easy.”
The support by all of these supporters is not lost on the team according to Dragons Captain Nick McLennan. “We are super grateful as a team and it just makes us want to perform better for our fans and our community. We are super lucky.” McLennan was able to climb in one of the tractors and even with all the buttons, was able to find and hit the horn.
The Dragons along with representatives from Brandt Tractor and Sharpe’s Trucking were on hand for harvest on Monday, September 21st.
This was also an opportunity for the Dragons to announce their leadership group for the 2026-27 season. Dragons Captain is Nick McLennan. Wearing the “A” this year will be Jacob Goudreau, Tristan Payne, and Bradley Gallo.
The team from Brandt shared that the field was bringing on average 50 bushels of wheat per acre. The field was harvested by early Monday evening and the grain was taken to the elevator. It will all depend on the price of wheat as to the amount that is raised this year.
Without the support of all the partners this fundraiser would not be as successful as it is, Brandt Drumheller, Richardson Pioneer, Westview Co-op, Sharpe’s Trucking, Koch Fuel Products, Fox Coulee Farms, BrokerLink, Brett and Terra Adams, and Cargill.
