At the Town of Drumheller Council Meeting on Tuesday, September 22nd, Council reviewed the franchise fee currently charged through Apex Utilities for natural gas customers within the Town of Drumheller.
In the presentation by Greg Towne, Finance Manager from the Town of Drumheller, he shared that the rate the Drumheller has set has been unchanged since the franchise fee was introduced back in 2004. The franchise fee has been 27 percent for the past 22 years, last discussed back in 2015.
Drumheller is slightly about average in the percentage fee compared to communities within a 100 kilometre radius. The average franchise fee worked out to 23.39%. Comparing Drumheller’s fee to similar sized communities, the average is 25.92%
Towne and administration recommended that the rate stay the same at 27%. Drumheller Town Council passed the motion unanimously.
