Your Drumheller Dragons wrapped up their Thanksgiving Weekend with a home game against the Olds Grizzlys on Saturday night.
The Grizzlys have had a strong start to their season and the Dragons were looking to build off a shoot-out win the night before against the Camrose Kodiaks. It would be a battle of goaltenders to start off the game with both netminders keeping the score 0-0 after one period.
Olds would open the scoring early in the second with Ryder Riedel scoring his first of the year, on the powerplay, at 2:48. The Grizzlys would hold the 1-0 lead into the third period.
The Dragons needed a spark and got it on an extended powerplay due to a double minor for high-sticking. With under a minute left in the man-advantage, Grayson Boe would score his second as a Dragon, from Roan Greschuk and Kutcher Aquila, tying the game 1-1. Just over three minutes later, veteran Dragon Wyatt Yule scored his first of the season, from Lauchlan Kozicky and Jacob Goudreau to give the Dragons the 2-1 lead. Then at 13:05, the captain, Nick McLennan, would score his first of the year, from Cole Landreville and Wyatt Yule, making it 3-1 Drumheller. Olds would pull their goaltender with over two minutes left in the game and with 1:06 remaining, Jacob Goudreau would score into the empty net, his fourth of the year, from Nick McLennan, making the final 4-1.
The Dragons have a rare midweek game this week as they welcome the AJHL North leading Grande Prairie Storm on Wednesday night. Game time at the Memorial Arena on Wednesday is at 7 PM.
