The World’s Largest Dinosaur, affectionately known as Tyra, is celebrating two milestones: its three-millionth visitor and 26 years as a Drumheller landmark.
Mark Harlow of Quebec was welcomed as the three-millionth visitor on Saturday, October 10, 2026. Harlow and his spouse were visiting Drumheller while celebrating their first wedding anniversary.
“Welcoming our three-millionth visitor is an incredible milestone for the World’s Largest Dinosaur and for Drumheller,” said Heather Bitz, Executive Director of the Drumheller & District Chamber of Commerce.
To mark the occasion, Harlow received a prize package featuring local products and experiences contributed by the World’s Largest Dinosaur, Travel Drumheller, East Coulee School Museum, Caracol Clay Studio, Atlas Coal Mine, Drumheller Ramada, Dry Canyon Collectables, The Fossil Shop, Valley Ice Cream Shoppe and Glamour Skin Aesthetics.
The dinosaur attraction welcomed its one-millionth visitor in September 2009 and its two millionth visitor in August 2018. “Continued growth in visitation reinforces Drumheller’s position as one of Alberta’s leading tourism destinations,” Bitz said. “The community continues to attract visitors from across Canada and around the world.” 10 per cent of revenue from World’s Largest Dinosaur admissions is directed to the Legacy Fund. Since 2005, the fund has invested nearly $900,000 in community initiatives benefiting the Drumheller Valley and surrounding area.
On Tuesday, the World’s Largest Dinosaur held a birthday celebration for the attraction. Many locals attended with an opportunity to climb to the top of Tyra for free during the event. There was also cake and other activities with the Travel Drumheller team at the event.
Tyra opened in 2000 as part of Drumheller’s millennium celebrations and marked 26 years of operation as of October 13, 2026.
