Our Drumheller Dragons had a rare mid-week game at the Memorial Arena on Wednesday.
The Grande Prairie Storm paid their first visit of the season to Drumheller to face the Dragons. The Storm have had a strong start to their season, currently leading the AJHL North Division with a record of 6-2-0. Grande Prairie would have a strong start in the game, scoring 4:34 in with a goal by Treysen Miller. The Dragons would tie the game 1-1 when Bradley Gallo scored his fourth on the powerplay, from Griffen Bruno and Grayson Boe at 10:19. Only 42 seconds later, the Storm would regain the lead as Cole Penner scored on a breakaway. Then a minute later, Bowen Grycan for Grande Prairie would increase the lead to 3-1.
The Dragons would have a better second period but could not get shots through to goaltender Hudson Perry, only able to generate five shots in the period. Dragons netminder Holden Murphy kept his team in the game stopping ten shots in the period, yet the Dragons would trail 3-1 after two periods.
Early in the third, Bowen Grycan would score his second of the game for Grande Prairie, increasing the lead to 4-1. Drumheller would have their opportunities but again could not get any puck luck. With 22 seconds left, Grande Prairie would add another by Logan Miller, making the final 5-1. It was a physical game with two fights in the game.
Drumheller will hope to regroup on Friday when the Fort McMurray Oil Barons come to town. It is “I Love Drumheller Valley Days” game with Travel Drumheller so there will be some great opportunities to win some amazing local prizes. Game time on Friday night is at 7 PM at the Memorial Arena.
