It has taken months of waiting but some good news for those that use Highway 837 northwest of Drumheller.
As of Monday, November 2nd, the highway officially reopened to traffic. The highway closed back on June 1st due to a landslide that brought a portion of the western slope down on the highway in an area that is susceptible to landslides.
New slide fences were installed along the western side of the highway atop the barricades. The road also had a bit of pavement repaired in the area. According to Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors, they were waiting on components for the slide sensor system in the area.
Fortunate timing for residents that live in the area as the Bleriot Ferry has now closed for the winter season. Having the road open is provides much relief to residents that have had to detour for the past five months.
