Our Drumheller Dragons hit the road on Friday night as they travelled north to Camrose to face the Kodiaks. The two previous games would need extra time to determine a winner so a close game was expected between the two rivals.
The Kodiaks hit the scoreboard early with Kade Hughes scoring a controversial goal as the Dragons believed it was put in by a high stick but the referees allowed the goal, giving the Kodiaks the 1-0 lead. Camrose would add another before the end of the period when Jake Rogers scored with 3:08 left in the period, making it 2-0. The Dragons would outshoot the Kodiaks by a 15-8 margin.
The Dragons would cut the deficit to 2-1 with 8:28 left in the second period as Lauchlan Kozicky continued his goal streak, scoring his sixth goal in four games (11), assisted by Luca Dufour and Jacob Goudreau. The Kodiaks would regain their two goal lead with four minutes left in the period, with Jake Rogers scoring his second goal of the game, making it 3-1 Camrose.
The Kodiaks would add two more early in the third period as Aidan Sexsmith and Miles Copeland scoring, increasing their lead to 5-1. Just when you thought the Dragons were down and out, cue the comeback. Camrose would take a slew footing penalty, giving the Dragons a four minute power play. Jacob Goudreau would drive the net, being taken down as he scored his 7th of the year, assisted by Paxton Cabana and Kutcher Aquila, making it 5-2 Camrose. With Goudreau being tripped up as he scored, the Kodiaks would take a tripping penalty and Camrose still killing off the slew-footing minor, the Dragons would have a full two minute five-on-three advantage. With 1:08 remaining in the game, Dallin Antos would fire the puck in the back of the net, assisted by Colter Playfair and Bradley Gallo, cutting the deficit to 5-3. The Dragons would still be on the power play and Dallin Antos would score his second of the game with 30 seconds left in the game, assisted again by Colter Playfair and Bradley Gallo, edging the Dragons closer 5-4. With the Dragons net empty, Drumheller would have a great chance to tie the game with 11 seconds left but would fan on a one-timer and the comeback would fall short. The Kodiaks would hang on for a 5-4 win.
No rest for the Dragons as the host the Drayton Valley Thunder on Saturday night. Game time at the Memorial Arena is at 7 PM.
