There is no better feeling than getting your hair washed by a hair stylist or maybe getting yourself a little pampering with a manicure.
For some in our community, it is more of a want than a need. The Cosmetology students at DVSS have a low cost option for those that may wish to be pampered. Through the month of December, the class is offering Merry Manicures & Holiday Haircare. Two of the students, Destiny Amaku and David Ochoa are excited to be able to help those who may not get these services on a regular basis. “It’s a really good experience because you feel better because you get to help out other people.” shares David. “It’s also just fun to do, in general. I like doing hair, it’s fun.”
Destiny notes that it’s also about the positive vibes a person gets after getting their hair done. “It’s nice to make people feel confident and nice. When you go into a hair salon, you walk out feeling fresh, feeling nice, that’s a really good feeling to feel.”

On December 16th and 17th the class will also offer face and hand painting for the kids while the parents get either a hair wash or manicure
The cost of hair washing or manicures is only 5 dollars. Both David and Destiny are hoping they are busy. “It will be busy but might be a little difficult,” comments David. “It will be fun. We will get to socialize with everyone that shows up. It’s not only doing the hair but we are also going to be talking to them and making bonds.”
The Cosmetology program is more than just doing hair and manicures for both of these students. Destiny understands the social aspect of the industry. “You can’t really have cosmetology and doing hair, without talking to your client, making sure he or she is feeling comfortable, and having the best experience possible.”
Both Destiny and David are not sure if they will continue into the industry after high school but both see the benefit of learning about cosmetology.
