James Vogel has been battling diabetes for many years and with the type of diabetes he has, his organs take the brunt of it.
James has had difficulties with his eyes but they seem to be on the mend. He is currently dealing with the shut down of his kidneys. Currently, his kidneys are running at about 12% of normal. James is doing what he can to avoid dialysis.
So you may ask what is he and his family doing? They have decided to draw attention to organ donation by putting a decal on their vehicle for people to contact them if they are serious about donating a kidney. Organ donation is so important, not to just the Vogel family, but potentially everyone, as you never know when you may need a transplant.
UPDATE: The Drumheller Dragons were looking for a way to help out as well. They decided to offer to put the decal up at the Memorial Arena as a rink board for James and the family. Here is the link on the presentation to the family: https://www.facebook.com/drumdragons/videos/1987806121311055/.
If you are seriously thinking of donating a kidney to James, you can contact the family via text or call to 403-334-5800. If you would like more information about organ and tissue donation in Alberta please visit https://myhealth.alberta.ca/Pages/OTDRHome.aspx.
A giant thank you to James for sharing his story and I will keep in touch with him to see his progress and if he is able to get a new kidney.
