The Rosebud Theatre of the Performing Arts brings its last show for the season and they bring it hard!

Allie Ruckman and I had the absolute pleasure of attending Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Christmas Carol on the evening of November 2, 2018.

Without any spoilers; the story, is in fact, a Sherlock Holmes story but it intertwines itself into the classic tale of the Christmas Carol.

Nathan Schmidt, who portrays Sherlock Holmes, is as witty, quick and towering as any actor who has portrayed Sherlock Holmes in the past, be it film or television.sherlock4L-R Nathan Schmidt, Esther Koepnick, Peter Church

Peter Church, Dr. Watson, is a relatable and lovable man through his rendition of Sherlock's best pal who is going through a tough time and in need of his friend, the great detective, Sherlock Holmes. Church's performance echoes the human soul in all of us that beckons to not only share love with those close to us, but the need to feel loved as well. Just ask the group of young ladies in the front row who had tears streaming down their faces during the final act.

One thing, out of the many things to choose from, I loved about this play; it wasn't a tale that could be told with only a two or three actor cast. There was an ensemble of actors and prop-hands that brought this story to life conveying the rich love and friendship we all experience throughout the holiday of Christmas and the love we need.

Esther Koepnick, one of Rosebud's 4th year students had multiple roles in the production and dived deeply into both characters to deliver her script masterfully. She played the Spirit of Christmas Past and secretary of sorts... again, no spoilers here.

I'm not a review columnist. I don't know what criteria to mark Xs or check marks with. But, I do know what it means to feel like a human being and Rosebud's performing arts students and executive team know how to bring that feeling to you in your seat.

Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Christmas Carol is a must see.

Thank you Heather Little, Marketing Manager for the Rosebud Opera House, Nathan, Peter and Esther for the interviews and everyone who were involved in the production for helping my Christmas spirit bud early.
