A trio from Rosebud are the Calgary regional champs in CBC's Searchlight contest.
The Dearhearts are among 23 regional champs in the nation who advance to the national round of the competition. Aix Cowman, Lauren de Graaf and Lauren Hamm make up the trio, who were voted to represent the Calgary region with their song, 'July'.
"'July' was written by Lauren Hamm, we had a really great summer last year and July was probably the best part of it," said Cowman.
"It's a lot of her experiences in that month."
Chelsea Murphy had made the regional finals for Kelowna, but lost out to The Burn Ins. Jenn Beaupre had also made the regional finals for Calgary.
The winner receives exposure through radio play, featured in a special music showcase and $20,000 in gear from Yamaha Canada Music.
Voting continues until 1:00 p.m. on Monday, May 4, and the five acts receiving the most votes will automatically advance to the next round, the national top 10. In this national voting round, vote for up to 10 artists each day and 10 times a day.
The top 10 will be rounded out by the celebrity judges, Dan Boeckner, Jenn Grant and Saukrates, who will choose the five remaining acts. On Tuesday, May 5, the national top 10 will be revealed.
