Update: The Dynos Cheer Team won the Team Sportsmanship Award last Friday in Edmonton. Lori Coultes of the Dynos was named Novice Coach of the Year.
It's been a great end to the season for the Dynos Cheerleading Team from Drumheller.
They finished 4th at cheerleading Provincials in Edmonton in early April to cap a season that didn't see them compete against other teams until February.
Now, the team and two of its coaches are up for season ending awards.
"When we were at Provincials the girls were presented with the Sportsmanship Award: we thought that was the end of it, but I guess it's not, " admitted Marquita McNeice.
She and Lori Coultes were also nominated for the Novice Coach of the Year.
"That we were surprized about, yes," confessed McNeice. "We're quite excited about that."
In the end, though, McNeice said it's all about the kids and what they've accomplished.
"When the majority of them started in the fall not very many of them knew how to do a cartwheel, they didn't know how to tumble, they didn't know anything about cheerleading, so for them to come this far in such a short period of time, we actually are amazed at how well they have done."
