The Badlands Hellraisers started their new year off in Medicine Hat during the Naughty vs. Nice event.

The event was open to all players and all skill levels explained Hellraiser April DeSmet.

"The Naughty Vs Nice event happens every year, and for myself and a couple of other girls, It is our third or fourth year going to this event," she explained. "Gas City puts on the event for anybody of any level from all over Alberta, Saskatchewan, BC, and even a few from Manitoba. We sign up in our level group and they do a Naughty Vs Nice game at different levels. It is a lot of fun because you play with a lot of people from all over the place, and even against your own teammates. We had about nine girls up there."

The event is particularly important to any new or "fresh" members to the game. It allows them to become familiar with the rules and skills of the game in a real-time setting.

"It is a really fun event. We always encourage our new girls, we had a couple of new girls up there who got their first derby game in and were hooked. So, that is always great to hear from them," explained DeSmet.

Next up on the schedule is the Hellraiser's first game of the season.

"Our first game on the season coming up January 19 in Medicine Hat against The GAs City Regulators. We are looking forward to that. We have about six practices to get everything in order. They also have some new girls, and it will be their second or third game, so we are hoping to get some of our freshies that we just got benchmarked over the season here to play in this game. That is our goal, working together and working together again," concluded DeSmet.

The team is also preparing for their first home game of the season in May.
