Your Drumheller Dragons kicked off the weekend with a game against the fourth place Okotoks Oilers at the Memorial Arena.
It was a special evening at the rink as former NFL football player and singer on "The Voice", Esera Tuaolo performed O' Canada and "This Is Me" from the Greatest Showman. He was in attendance after speaking at an inclusivity event at Morrin School. Madeline Cuncannon and Taylor Davidson joined Esera for the ceremonial puck drop.
In the game, it was a fairly even first period. Drumheller opened up the scoring at the 8:14 mark of the period when Eric Martin scored his second of the year from Kaden Hanas. Okotoks outshot Drumheller in the period 10-7 but the Dragons took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
The second period, Okotoks dominated the period but could not get anything past Dragons goalie Daniel Allin. With 3:06 left in the second period, Drumheller was on a 5 on 3 power play. They capitalized when Brett Edwards scored his fifteenth of the season from Troy Dudley and Jordan Taupert. The Dragons would take the 2-0 lead into the third period.
Again, Okotoks had their chances but Allin for the Dragons shut the door. With just over two minutes left, the Oilers had a 6 on 4 advantage after pulling their goalie on their power play. Again, Allin stoned the Okotoks forwards. Kaden Hanas would get the puck at center ice, drive the zone, pass back to Jordan Taupert who sent it to Brayden Nicholetts. Nicholetts would find Hanas who snapped it into the empty net to make it 3-0 Dragons with 19 seconds left in the game. That would be the final. Allin would get his fourth win as a Dragon and his first shutout.
