Your Drumheller Dragons were back in action on Saturday preparing to face a strong Camrose Kodiaks team.  It was a battle between 2nd and 3rd place in the AJHL South Division.

Camrose was coming off a big win in Olds on Friday night where the won 6-0.  The Dragons were coming off a loss in Brooks 5-2.  These two teams match up fairly well and it looked to be a good hockey game.

The first period kicked off with action in both ends of the rink.  Both teams had their chances but both goaltenders, Griffin Bowerman for Camrose and Hunter Virostek for Drumheller, did what they needed to do to keep the puck out of the net.  It took a power play late in the period to get a goal.  Camrose player Carson Welke took a holding penalty with 38 seconds left in the first.  Drumheller capitalized when Jordan Taupert scored his 14th of the season with 5 seconds left in the period.  Assists went to Shane Ott and Eric Martin.  The first would end with the Dragons leading 1-0,

In the second, Dragon Brett Edwards took an interference penalty and the Kodiaks made them pay quickly.  At 6:34 affiliate player, Blake Kondor, scored on the power play to tie the game at one goal a piece.  Again the second was a very even period between these two south division foes.

The third period, Drumheller had the better of the chances but again could not get the puck past Griffin Bowerman.  Bowerman made a key save with about 6 minutes left in the period that made him need to take a few minutes.  It looked as the Kodiaks may need to switch goalies but Bowerman fought through it and stayed in the game.  The third would end with the two teams tied 1-1 so we needed overtime.

In the extra frame, both teams had good chances.  The Dragons got caught on a line change which gave Cooper Johnson the opportunity to get behind the Dragons defense.  He came in and scored the game-winner with 2:37 left in overtime.  Final score was 2-1 Camrose
