For the first time in Dragons history, they hosted a game on the Family Day holiday. The Calgary Canucks made their second visit to the Memorial Arena of the weekend.
The Dragons came into Monday's tilt on a four-game winning streak and were looking to keep it going. The captain of the Dragons got the team started on the right foot. Only 27 seconds into the game, Markus Boguslavsky scored his 12th of the season from Brayden Nicholetts and Jordan Taupert. Play continued mostly in the Calgary zone. Drumheller added to their lead with 5:24 left in the first when Troy Dudley scored his 3rd of the year from Matt Raymond and Dylan Wenzel. Drumheller outshot Calgary 17-7.
The Dragons dominance continued in the second period. Drumheller made it 3-0 when Markus Boguslavsky scored his second of the game from Jordan Taupert and Brayden Nicholetts. The Dragons continued their hard work and were rewarded with a goal by Derrick Budz, his 20th, from Shane Ott and Brady Risk. With only a few seconds left in the period, Calgary had a great scoring opportunity with Hunter Virostek making one of his best saves of the season to keep it 4-0 Dragons. Drumheller once again outshot Calgary in the period, 18-5.
In the third, Drumheller continued to dominate Calgary. Blake Pilon, the Canucks goalie, made 20 more saves as Calgary struggled to get any pressure on Drumheller. Things were getting a little heated near the end of the game with penalties going to both teams to try to keep things under control. The final score would be 4-0 Drumheller with the Dragons outshooting Calgary 55-22.
The day would wrap up with Skate With The Dragons where there were quite a few kids on the ice with the team. The game itself was well attended as there were 821 people in the Memorial Arena.
