Your Drumheller Dragons took to the road on Sunday afternoon to face the Sherwood Park Crusaders. This is the second and last meeting of the two teams this season.
Drumheller was coming off a strong win against the Canmore on Friday night in front of one of the best crowds of the season. The Crusaders werew coming off a loss to the Ft. McMurray Oil Barons on Saturday night.
The Dragons had a strong start to the game with the majority of the game play happening in the offensive zone. Brayden Nicholetts took an elbowing call that could have went either way. The Crusaders wasted no time as they scored ten seconds into the power play. Arjun Atwal scored his 17th of the season at 6:33 to make it 1-0 Sherwood Park. That's how the period would end with Drumheller out shooting Sherwood Park 13-11.
In the second, the Crusaders woudl add to their lead as Michael Benning scored to make it 2-0 Sherwood Park. Once again on the power play, the Crusaders would make it count as Carter Savoie scored to give Sherwood Park the 3-0 lead. Drumheller would get on the board short-handed as due to hard work in the offensive zone, Brett Edwards scored his 26th of the year from Brady Risk. I thought Risk touched the puck before it went in so that may change. With 4:21 left in the second, Jack Hamly from Sherwood Park drove the net with the puck. Daniel Allin made the initial save but the puck rolled over his shoulder to the back of the net to make it 4-1 Sherwood Park after two periods.
Early in the third, the Crusaders would add another as Michael Benning would get his second of the game on a fortunate bounce to make it 5-1. With 9:09 left in the third, Drumheller would get one back as Shane Ott scored his 9th of the season from Jordan Taupert to give the Dragons hope. The remainder of the play would be in the Crusaders zone but Sherwood Park goalie Matt Berlin made some great saves to give his team the win. Drumheller outshot Sherwood Park 14-3 in the period.
