One of the major goals of Alberta Health Services is to make the residents of Drumheller and the Province of Alberta healthier. They now have a new tool available to the public that potentially will help to attain that goal.

AHS has introduced the Alberta Community Health Dashboard. The dashboard provides statistical information on the province as well you can drill down to specific communities like Drumheller, Hanna, and Three Hills.

Dr. Ifeoma Achebe is the Medical Officer of Health with AHS for the Central Zone and explains what the dashboard is about. "It's an online resource that is aimed at helping communities live healthier by knowing what's happening in their community and also suggesting ways to improve your health."achebeDr. Ifeoma Achebe, Medical Officer of Health with Alberta Health Services Central Region

Dr. Achebe also gives details on how to find information "If you go to 'Prevention Data', above the community health dashboard, you put in your postal code and then it gives you information in different areas, depending on what you select. There's risk factors, so for risk factors things like smoking, obesity, those kinds of things will show up."

The reasoning for this tool is to promote health. "The goal is to promote health generally. A lot of people don't know about this, it's quite new. People don't know it's available or out there. The whole purpose is for people to know that some of those things (like disease, obesity) is preventable too."

If you are interested in checking out the dashboard, you can visit https://www.healthiertogether.ca/prevention-data/alberta-community-health-dashboard/ for more information about your area.
