Our Drumheller Dragons had a couple of games in front of their home fans this past weekend.
It all started on Friday night against the Lloydminster Bobcats. The Bobcats have won the previous two meetings and the Dragons were hoping things would change in front of their home crowd. The Bobcats would open the scoring in the latter part of the first period when Jadon Iyogun scored on the powerplay with 3:22 left in the period. It would remain 1-0 Lloydminster after one period.
Another powerplay goal by the Bobcats would give them a 2-0 lead only 42 seconds into the second period when Gus El-Tehhan scored. The Dragons would get one back on their own powerplay with Bradley Gallo scored his 24th of the year, from Jacob Goudreau and Allen Sherpa at 5:43. The game would remain 2-1 Bobcats after two periods.
The powerplay was a key to this game as the Bobcats scored their third powerplay goal of the game with 8:26 left, on a goal by Landen Ward. Drumheller would try to get back in the game but just were not able to and would fall by a score of 3-1.
Saturday night, the Dragons were looking for redemption at home against the Devon Xtreme. Drumheller would score early to take the early lead. Bradley Gallo would score his second of the weekend, 25th of the year, unassisted at 4:44. The Xtreme would have their chances to tie the game in the first but were unable to do so, and the Dragons would take the 1-0 lead in the second period.
Devon would tie the game early in the second period with Wyatt Ball scoring at 4:19. Drumheller would regain the lead at 7:50 when Lauchlan Kozicky scored his 9th of the year, unassisted. Devon would push back and tie the game with 9:47 left with a goal by Lincoln Martin. Drumheller would again take the lead with 5:38 left in the second with Rowan McDonald scoring his 6th of the year, assisted by Lauchlan Kozicky and Hayden Schollar. Just over a minute later, Jacob Goudreau would score his 40th goal as a Dragon (11) in his 200th junior hockey game, assisted by Bradley Gallo and Sullivan Humeniuk making it 4-2 Drumheller.
The Dragons would add one more insurance goal in the third period with Bradley Gallo scoring his second of the game (26), assisted by Lauchlan Kozicky and Jacob Goudreau, making the final 5-2.
Drumheller is only four points back of the Canmore Eagles for first place in the division, and only two back of Camrose for second place. Both the Eagles and Kodiaks have one game in hand. The Dragons hit the road for two this weekend, in Lloydminster on Friday night and Camrose on Saturday night. Both games can be enjoyed on “The Home of the Dragons” New Country 92.5 with Jason Blanke with the Fountain Tire Drumheller pregame show on Friday night at 6:45 PM.
