On Tuesday, Travel Drumheller held their ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the new Valley Connect transit trial coming this summer. Also it was announced that there will now be transportation between Calgary and Drumheller through bus service by FlixBus.
Regular bus service has not been available between Drumheller and Calgary for a number of years but that is about to change as of May 14th. Rafi Tumarkin, Senior Team Lead of Business Development with FlixBus Canada shares that their company looks to provide connections with destinations. “At FlixBus, we’re focused on connecting people to popular summer tourist destinations, and tourist destinations in general, such as Drumheller. We expanded to Alberta a couple of years ago. This has been on our radar for about a year and half now as we noticed there was not a direct link for passengers to go from big cities like Calgary and Edmonton down to Drumheller, without renting a car. We wanted to fill that gap and are excited to do that today.”
The route will be fairly direct from Calgary to Drumheller according to Tumarkin. “We’re starting a direct service from Calgary downtown, also going through Calgary Whitehorn, and through the Calgary Airport as well. We are starting with four days a week and we are going to six days a week in the peak summer. We are also going to be, on some of the days, making a stop at the Royal Tyrrell Museum directly, if it does not overlap with the Valley Connect shuttle service. That is the beginning of our service. We’re doing it for the summer, see how things go, and hopefully expand on it and make it permanent.”
FlixBus will be working with a partner to provide the service to the Drumheller Valley, Sunshine Coach out of Calgary. The first scheduled trip will be on Friday, May 15th. By searching the FlixBus website, the cost for travel between Calgary and Drumheller will be under 25 dollars one way. This will also provide locals the chance to travel to Calgary via the connection. There will be two trips per day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. To start, service will be on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays, until the summer with the pick-up point at either the Downtown Plaza or the Royal Tyrrell Museum.
FlixBus also has connections to Edmonton, Banff, Saskatoon, Regina, and now Winnipeg. The best news for travelers is that the trips are quite affordable. To learn more about FlixBus services from Drumheller and throughout the province, visit their website.
