Minister of Finance and MLA for Drumheller-Stettler shared an unexpected announcement on Wednesday afternoon.
In a post on his social media, Nate Horner announced that he is stepping away from his role as Minister of Finance and President of the Treasury Board. His reasoning for this is that he does not plan to seek re-election after this term in office.
Horner does share in his official statement that he remains supportive of the UCP party and Premier Danielle Smith. “I remain supportive of our United Conservative Party and Premier Smith. In discussing my plans with the Premier, we both felt it was important for the election year budget to be built by a member of cabinet who will be running for re-election, and therefore, I will not continue in my role as Minister of Finance and President of Treasury Board. I thank the staff in my ministry office and department for all their hard work and wish the team all the best as they move forward and begin preparations for Budget 2027.”
Horner confirms that he does plan to continue as MLA for the Drumheller-Stettler constituency until the next general election in October 2027.
We did reach out for an interview with Minister Horner but have yet been able to connect with him.
