In early June, it has been a tradition for 18 years that the community would gather at the Old Grouch’s for their annual STARS Fundraiser.
In 2026, a big part of the fundraising event changed as the one who spearheaded the event, Fran Nargang, passed away late last year. This year’s event was a combination of the celebration of Fran as well as continuing to raise funds for a cause near and dear to her heart. The event took place on Friday, June 5th and Saturday, June 6th from 4 PM to Midnight each day.
To nobody’s surprise, the restaurant, patio, and tent was packed on both days. There was even a nice tribute by the Garage Band with a song for Fran, in her memory. Her son Jay, along with numerous helpers kept the event going this year, many of whom have been volunteering since the event began years ago.
There is no word on the amount raised over the weekend as of yet but there was a cool honour given to the Old Grouch’s. On Monday, the logo of the business was added to the STARS helicopter in Calgary in a thank you for all of the funds raised for STARS by their fundraiser year after year. In 2025, over $15,000 was raised for STARS.
