A person that has been synonymous with the Royal Canadian Legion here in Drumheller has been recognized with a special honour for her dedication to the organization.
Debra Bolduc has been presented the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers. The medal recognizes the exceptional volunteer achievements of Canadians from across the country in a wide range of fields and pays tribute to the dedication and commitment of volunteers. They embody the caring country we aspire to build. Bolduc explains the process to receive this high honour. “Your name is put forward with a citation of volunteering that you’ve done. Then, it is given to the Governor’s General committee in Ottawa, and they decide whether you are worthy or not.”

It ended up being quite a process and Bolduc was surprised to receive the award. “I was quite surprised because I know that my name was put in over three years ago. It took that long and I figured I wasn’t getting it.”
Bolduc was presented the medal at a function at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 22 this past Friday (July 4th), along with a certificate from the Governor General, as well as a pin. Bolduc was quite emotional on receiving the award as again it was not expected.
