The summer seems to fly by so quickly and this is the case again in 2026. A sign that the seasons will be changing soon is the installation of the ice at the Drumheller Memorial Arena.
We had the chance to stop by and see the new ice. Currently the ice is not open to the public but will be soon as the Drumheller Dragons prepare to host their kids camps coming up next week, August 17th through the 21st. Main camp will follow with the Dragons exhibition season and regular season just around the corner.
As the Dragons prepare for the upcoming year, there have been a couple of additions to the team. The team has hired a new assistant coach, Carson Cox. Cox played four years in the NCAA at SUNY Canton in New York. He graduated last year with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Sports Management and a minor in Marketing. The team has also added a new Athletic Therapist / Equipment Manager, Jeremy Au. Au, originally from Hong Kong, graduated from York University last year bringing a strong background in athletic therapy, kinesiology, and hockey. Jeremy’s experience includes working with the Ottawa Senators Development Camp in 2026, Upper Canada College during the 2025–26 season, and the York University Men’s OUA Hockey team during the 2024–25 season.
The Dragons are also looking to bolster their volunteer base. They are hosting a volunteer meeting at the Dragons Clubhouse, located at 114 7 Avenue SE, next to the Drumheller Bottle Depot, on Wednesday, August 19th, starting at 7 PM. This is an opportunity to be part of the Dragons game day team and for those interested, you do not need to be at every game. There will be a schedule created for those to commit to the games that they can or would like to volunteer.
