Earlier this month, the Three Angels Poker Run was held for the 6th year, in memory of Trevor, Kim, and Rachel, three young people from Drumheller that had their lives cut short.
Each year a local charity is chosen to have all of the funds directed to and this year the organizers chose the Drumheller and Area Health Foundation. According to Danielle McCoy, one of the organizers, they chose the Drumheller and Area Health Foundation to support mental health in the community. “Basically it goes to the Drumheller and Area Health Foundation and then we ask them to direct the funds to mental health and addictions. It is not going directly to the government, it is going through the foundation so we can decide how to use the funds. We were really wanting it to be mental health and addictions, so that we can try to help people directly.”
This event has been growing and growing. McCoy shares that they saw a large jump in donations this year. “Our total so far is over $31,000. We almost doubled what we made last year. Last year we donated almost $19,ooo and it actually went to the Drumheller and Area Health Foundation but it went to seniors (Recreational Therapy Program).”
The three young people that this event is done in memory of would be amazed on the amount raised according to Ellie Noel, another one of the organizers. “They would be tickled pink. We’ve built ourselves an amazing team of the Three Angels, and all of our hard work put together has made this possible to accomplish such a big goal. Being that this is our sixth year, we have businesses that will reach out to donate. It’s been inspiring.”
They are always looking for additional support, either by volunteering on the day of or supporting the event with items or sponsorship. You can reach out to the group through their Facebook Page. They also have merchandise available to show your support and can be purchased at Kolor Kult Beauty Salon near Dollarama in Drumheller.
