On August 19 and 26, 2026, as a result of the vigilance of staff members, packages containing contraband and unauthorized items were seized at Drumheller Institution.
The contraband and unauthorized items seized included methamphetamine, cigarettes, cellular phones and chargers, nicotine patches, SIM cards, and SD cards. The total estimated institutional value of this seizure is $143,510.
The police have been notified and the institution is investigating.
This is the third and fourth seizure over the summer. Back on July 20th, contraband and unauthorized items were seized and included methamphetamine, cell phones and accessories, SIM card, USB sticks, and SD cards. The total estimated institutional value of this seizure is $223,150. Then on August 1st, contraband and unauthorized items seized included THC butter. The total estimated institutional value of this seizure is $208,050.
The total value of the four seizures total nearly $600,000.
Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is heightening measures to prevent contraband from entering its institutions in order to help ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone. CSC also works in partnership with the police to take action against those who attempt to introduce contraband into correctional institutions.
CSC has also set up a telephone tip line for all federal institutions so that it may receive additional information about activities relating to security at CSC institutions. These activities may be related to drug use or trafficking that may threaten the safety and security of visitors, inmates, and staff members working at CSC institutions.
