The signs have been up for a few weeks advising that there is going to be bridge construction taking place on North Dinosaur Trail this fall.
The bridge, which is across Michichi Creek on Highway 838 (North Dinosaur Trail) has come to the end of its lifespan. In a release from Alberta Transportation through the Town of Drumheller, they share that beginning near the middle of September, Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors will start the repair work on the bridge.
The project includes the replacement of seven bridge girders, which have reached the end of their service life. The project will require temporary lane closures with single-lane alternating traffic.
The work is to begin after the Labour Day long weekend and is scheduled to be completed by mid-October. The actual work on the site is anticipated to take approximately two weeks, depending on weather, and will take place between the hours of 7 AM and 7 PM, daily.
Travelers of North Dinosaur Trail will experience speed reductions and slight delays. The bridge will have a single restricted lane width of 3.5 metres and wide loads will not be permitted.
A traffic accommodation strategy is also in place to mitigate impact on drivers. During stoppages, travelers are asked for their patience and to remain in their vehicles.
