Your Drumheller Dragons wrapped up their evaluation camp on Thursday evening (September 3), with their annual Miners Cup game.
The Memorial Arena had about 100 fans in attendance to watch Team Risk (Black jerseys) face off against Team Anderson (White jerseys). Team Risk would open the scoring at 8:16 of the first period with Jacob Goudreau scoring, assisted by Nathan Ivey and Lauchlan Kozicky. Team Anderson would tie the game just over two minutes later on a goal by Bradley Gallo, assisted by Jase Johnstone and Carter Gilchrest. Less than 20 seconds later, Team Anderson took the lead with a powerplay goal by Allen Sherpa, from Bradley Gallo and Brayden Ryan-MacKay. Team Risk would tie the game late in the first period with a goal by Macklin Dobko, from Harrison Boldt and Lauchlan Kozicky.
In the second, Team Anderson would regain the lead with a powerplay goal by Tristan Payne, from Bradley Gallo and Jase Johnstone. Team Risk would again tie the game with a powerplay goal of their own by Harrison Boldt, assisted by Brady Desharnais and Wyatt Yule. Team Anderson would regain the lead for good with three more in the second, one from Dominic Seminoff, one from Luca Dufour, and one from Jase Johnstone, making it 6-3 after two periods.
Both teams would exchange goals early in the third, with JT Preston scoring for Team Risk, and Johnstone would score his second of the game for Team Anderson, making the final 7-4 for Team Anderson.
The Dragons are now into the exhibition with three games over the weekend. Friday night, Drumheller heads to Olds to face the Grizzlys. Saturday night, the Dragons are back home against the Calgary Canucks at 7 PM. Sunday afternoon, the Olds Grizzlys come to the Memorial Arena to face the Dragons at 2 PM.
