Many may have heard that we are preparing to have pick up recycling in Drumheller and the surrounding communities starting next month.
The new blue bins have been appearing at homes throughout the valley this week. The program is not a municipal initiative but a provincial one being introduced by a company called Circular Materials. Starting on October 1st, recycling in Drumheller and also other communities of our area, including Hanna, Delia, Munson, Morrin, Carbon, Three Hills, Trochu, Rockyford, and Hussar.
Earlier this month, representatives attended the Sports, Art, and Recreation Exhibit showcasing the new program. This program has been in the works by the province since 2022. This phase will allow more materials into the recycling program. As was previously allowed, paper, boxboard, and cardboard will continue to be recycled. Now there will be a number of more materials able to be recycled, including a variety of plastic containers, foam packaging, metal, aluminum trays, aerosol containers, and glass containers.
Another benefit to the program will be that Circular Materials will be offering curbside recycling every two weeks. The large blue bins will continue to be delivered to homes in Drumheller and the other communities around the area, prior to the program commencing on October 1st. The first pickup route will begin on Monday, October 12th in the Nacmine and Huntington areas. Pick up will be every two weeks.
