Our Drumheller Dragons played their first two games in front of their home fans over the weekend and did not have as much success as they hoped for.
Friday night, the defending AJHL Champions, the Canmore Eagles came to town for their first visit of the season. The first period would be a close battle with the only goal being scored very early, 35 seconds into the game, by Cohen Daoust for the Eagles. The Dragons would outshoot the Eagles in the period but would trail 1-0.
Canmore would take it to the Dragons in the second with four goals, two early by Bryson Insinger and Owen Mastroianni, and two late by Mason Moran and Quinn Keeler, making it 4-0 after two periods.
Drumheller would change up the goaltenders in the third, with Holden Murphy coming in for Brandon Williams. Canmore would add one more late in the period with Cohen Daoust scoring his second of the game with 5:33 remaining. The Dragons would break Hudson Sedo’s shutout with a goal only six seconds later, with Lauchlan Kozicky scoring his second of the early season, unassisted, to make it 6-1 Canmore. Bradley Gallo would add one more with 27 seconds left in the game, his second of the year short-handed, from Lauchlan Kozicky. The Dragons would fall 6-2
Saturday, Holden Murphy would get the start for the Dragons and Drumheller would have a great start. The Dragons would score early with Luca Dufour scoring his first of the year, from Rowan McDonald and Tristan Payne at 2:29. The Dragons second goal would be scored by Rowan McDonald, although it was initially thought to be scored by Nicholas Binner, making it 2-0 Drumheller 6:31 into the period. The Wolverines would cut the deficit to one when Ricky Deslauriers scored on the power play at 8:58. Whitecourt would score on the man-advantage once more before the end of the period as Jett Quaschnick scored with 2:28 left in the first, tying the game 2-2 after one period.
Midway through the second, the Dragons would regain the lead when Jacob Goudreau fired one that rolled off goaltender Micah Davidson’s glove, making it 3-2 Drumheller. The Dragons would increase their lead with four seconds left in the period as Rowan McDonald scored his second of the game, from Grayson Boe and Jase Johnstone.
In the third, Drumheller would strike again at 6:27 as Noa Halat scored his second of the year, from Jacob Goudreau and Lauchlan Kozicky, making it 5-2 Dragons. Bradley Gallo would add another at 7:46, his second goal in two games, unassisted, giving the Dragons the 6-2 lead and that is how the game would end.

The Dragons are back at home on Friday night as the Bonnyville Pontiacs pay their first of two visits to the Memorial Arena this season. It is also one of the BrokerLink Shoot To Win games where one lucky shooter will have the chance to win $25,000. Game time on Friday night is at 7 PM.
