Our Drumheller Dragons had two games over the weekend, Friday night at home, and Saturday on the road.
They were hoping to build off their win at home last weekend but it would be the case. Friday night, the Bonnyville Pontiacs made a visit to the Memorial Arena. The Pontiacs would open the scoring on the man advantage at 8:30 with a goal by Damen Vanderberg. Bonnyville would add to their lead with 4:45 left in the first period with a goal from Brock MacDougall. Drumheller would cut the deficit to one with a powerplay goal by Dominic Seminoff (3), assisted by Rowan McDonald and Colter Playfair. The Dragons would trail 2-1 after one period.
Drumheller would have a number of chances to tie the game in the second period but no goals would be scored. Early in the third, Bonnyville would increase their lead with Rylan Emigh scoring 24 seconds into the period. Drumheller would have a number of powerplay chances in the third but again could not score. Bonnyville would score into the empty net with 1:20 remaining making the final 4-1.
Saturday, the Dragons would hit the road to Devon to face the Xtreme. Devon would open the scoring in the first period when Jason Huang scored 1:15 into the game. The Xtreme would add another with 4:32 remaining in the first with Jeremy Moellenbeck making it 2-0.
Cue the comeback for the Dragons early in the second as Jacob Goudreau (3) scored 1:09 into the period, from Lauchlan Kozicky. Then at 8:24, Jase Johnstone scored his first of the season, from Bradley Gallo, tying the game 2-2. The Dragons would take the lead with 2:58 remaining in the second with Kutcher Aquila scoring his first of the season.
Devon would tie the game 3-3 at 7:42 of the third period on a goal by Declan Brinkman. The game would remain tied to the end of the period. There would be some rough stuff at the end of the third in the Devon end, and unfortunately for the Dragons, the only penalty called would be against Nick McLennan and the Xtreme would start overtime with a powerplay
In the extra period, Devon on a four-on-three powerplay would score the game winner by Maddox Mason.
The Dragons are back home for two this weekend at the Memorial Arena with the Camrose Kodiaks in town on Friday night and the Olds Grizzlys paying a visit on Saturday night. Both games are at 7 PM at the Memorial Arena.
