A major milestone was celebrated by a long-standing business in the Drumheller Valley.
Riverside Pharmacy opened in Drumheller back in November of 1975 and has been open in our community for 50 years. On Friday, October 2nd, a ribbon cutting ceremony was held in front of the store located on Centre Street downtown. This has not been the only location for Riverside Pharmacy as at one time they were in the building where the Drumheller RCMP is located now. They moved to the current location back in 1985 and have been there for over 40 years. Ray Ainscough, whose parents, Paul and Pat Ainscough opened the business in 1975, is pleased that they can celebrate this milestone. “I didn’t ever expect to be 50 years old myself. It’s been an awesome ride. The journey continues. We’re having fun, we got back to our old roots of Riverside Pharmacy, and loving it.”
The transition back to Riverside Pharmacy, that took place in November of last year, gives Ainscough the feeling of getting back to their roots. “One hundred percent. The bonus is that our private label line is huge now. It’s been great, it’s nice to be nostalgic and enjoying the ride.”
Although Ainscough hasn’t been directly involved in the business for the full 50 years, he understands the importance and commitment to the local community, especially their customers. “I love my patients. The customers are awesome. I’ve known them since I was a kid, I’ve known their kids, I know their grandkids. It’s awesome to know so many people in this community.”
Riverside Pharmacy continues to serve the community, seven days a week, at their Centre Street location. They also have a pharmacy in the Riverside Medical Centre, R and D Pharmacy, to help serve the community as well.
