Polls opened on Monday, October 19th for the Alberta Referendum questions all across the province.
In Drumheller, depending on where you live, there are polling stations throughout the community at the Cretaceous Conference Centre, Nacmine Community Hall, Midland Community Hall, Rosedale Community Hall, and the East Coulee Community Hall. In the surrounding area, there are polling stations at the halls in Munson, Delia, Dalum, Hanna, Hussar, Carbon, Rockyford, Three Hills, Trochu, Acme, Irricana, and Linden. Residents in Morrin will have to travel to Rumsey to vote and residents of Beiseker will need to travel to Irricana to mark their “X”. Rosebud residents will also have to travel over to Rockyford to vote.
Polls are open from 9 AM to 8 PM today. I stopped in the polling station at the Cretaceous Conference Centre at about 10 AM and they had said that the polls have been steady so far today.
Many Albertans took advantage of early voting, either by mail-in ballot or the advanced polls. According to a release by Elections Alberta, over 1.3 million voters have already voted with 837,791 by advanced polls and 519,082 by special ballot. Total votes cast ahead of today’s referendum is 1,356,873, which is 43.1 per cent of eligible voters.
The results are expected both Monday night and on Tuesday morning. We will update the story when the totals come in early Tuesday morning.
